Ever been anxious about a test? Perhaps you can relate to negative or anxious feelings about taking tests academically, or for health concerns. But, the tests that John gives to us in 2:3-11 are aimed in the opposite direction. His tests intend to calm the anxiety that many feel about their salvation. My friends, God desires that His true children would know that they are His!
In verses 3-6, we saw the test related to an individual’s relationship to the Word of God – the commands of Scripture. A person’s relationship to the Word of God is revelatory of their relationship with God. We will see a second test that is equally important and revelatory. It is the test of love.
Please join Pastor Dustin Rogers today as he teaches from Gods word in 1 John 2:3-6. In 1 John 2:3-6 John’s aim is for the people of God to know what it is to be “in” with God. The key word is “fellowship” in verse 3. He wanted the people to enjoy fellowship with God – to be welcomed…to be in the family such that you feel SECURE. What an aim this is!

Have you ever wondered how the mercy and justice of God coexist? Have you ever questioned, “Is Christianity actually unjust?” Pastor Dustin uses 1 John 2:1-2 to help us look at how to answer these questions and settle our questions. We end up pointed at a perfect and righteous God and advocate in Jesus.
Please join Pastor Dustin Rogers today as he teaches from 1 John 1:9. Verses like 1st John 1:9 can often be reduced to being a “go-to” verse to make a point or defend a doctrine. While it is a wonderful “go-to” verse on forgiveness, it’s much more. Today we will he enter the Gates of Grace and while inside these gates we find a world of pure exhilaration for the Christian.
John’s reflection on the nature of our relationship with God and how sin affects that now points to the second and third claims and pointing us toward denial and its effects on our lives. We walk through this fight that leads some of us to say that we have no sin nature or that we really haven’t sinned. The end result is a gap in our relationship with God.
Please join Pastor Dustin Rogers as he brings us God’s word from 1 John 1:8-10. In 1 John 1:8-10, John exposes humanity’s propensity to deny or disregard our sinfulness. But, when we fail to consider, comprehend, and confess our sin, we don’t receive forgiveness. You cannot experience the glory of verse 9 if you are not found in verses 8 and 10. You cannot experience grace if you don’t think you need it.
The moments of our lives can seem to tell people everything about our lives. But as John points out in 1 John 1:5-7, our life is a journey and it’s the path of that journey that informs us of our claims of being in Christ.

As we begin our study of 1 John, Pastor Dustin unpacks the first 3 verses to lay the foundation for John’s credibility to share the story of the incredible person of Jesus. He was there, he heard, he saw and he touched the events first hand and uses this to hook us into what he is about to share.
